An Effort to be Helpful During Covid-19

Back in March I was listening to NPR's live broadcast of a White House press conference when I noticed Covid-19 anxiety had spread to my body.

That was the day I decided enough is enough. I unplugged the clock radio and replaced it with a simple battery-powered clock. Then I returned to this blog to try to share resources on how to deal with this anxiety.

I've been inspired by many respected Dharma teachers who are recording messages that encourage us to use this time in lockdown to connect with our families and engage in Dharma practice.

Some have also highlighted that in the West people are so used to being "busy."

Geshe Thupten Jinpa, one of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's translators explained it particularly well in a March 31 Facebook post. He said, "Now while we are in social isolation it is also important to pay attention to how we are feeling because for many people perhaps this is the first time they have been compelled to be alone with their minds for a prolonged period of time."

He continued, "So I think here it's important to pay attention to how you're feeling and one of the most important things is to really observe your mind so that we don't allow our mind to be taken over by overwhelming feelings of fear and anxiety as well as suspicion."

There are many things online these days to help people train and work with their minds. I've been testing them out and sharing a new resource daily on this blog.

If you find these blog posts helpful then please share the resources they contain with others. If you would like to receive each new blog post in your email inbox on the day that it's published then complete the email subscription form "sign up to receive new posts via email" appearing on the bottom of the screen.

Wishing everyone much comfort and peace in these difficult times. As Geshe Ngawang Tenley often reminds us, this won't last forever.
