Watch TV series Buddha - The King of Kings on Netflix During Covid-19

Buddha - The King of Kings TV series by B.K. Modi.

In December 2019, I asked Geshe Dorji Damdul to recommend a book about the Buddha's life story. Instead he advised I watch the 2013 TV series Buddha - Rajaon Ka Raja (Buddha - The King of Kings.)

Buddha - Rajaon Ka Raja (Buddha - The King of Kings) is a fifty-five episode Hindi language TV series produced by Bhupendra Kumar Modi (B.K. Modi) under the business conglomerate he chairs, Spice Global.

The series first aired on Sunday, September 8, 2013 on TV stations Zee TV and Doordarshan in India.

Watch the TV Series

I am almost done watching the TV series and have enjoyed every minute of it. Although Prince Siddharth lived more than 2,500 years ago his story is relatable, for example when he refers to himself as "a walking question." This TV series should appeal to anyone with questions. It's beautifully done as Geshe Dorji Damdul said.

If you are in the US then all fifty-five episodes are available with English subtitles on Netflix.

If you are in India then you can watch the series on YouTube.

I just found these on YouTube while searching from the US: episode #3 in Vietnamese with English subtitles, and episode #1 in German without English subtitles.

I've seen the box set of thirteen DVDs (all fifty-five episodes) for sale on eBay, Amazon.com, and Amazon.in. The packaging looks like this:

To get an overview of the story (spoiler alert) then watch this beautiful fan-generated video in Tibetan.

A Prayer for Recitation

Geshe Dorji Damdul encouraged me to recite a prayer, a homage to the Buddha, before watching Buddha - The King of Kings.

Enthused by great compassion,
You taught the immaculate Dharma
To dispel all perveted views,
To you, the Buddha Gautama, I pay homage.

This is the concluding verse from The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way [in Sanskrit: mulamadhyamakakarika] by Acharya Nagarjuna.

This English language translation was extracted from The Blaze of Non-Dual Bodhicittas: Study and Meditation Manual published by Tibet House New Delhi, India where Geshe Dorji Damdul serves as Director.

  4. It used to be available for purchase on Amazon, but I just checked and the DVD set is listed but unavailable for purchase. I haven't seen it for sale elsewhere. I hope you can find it.

  5. Thanks for this blog. I loved every minute of series too. Now that they've taken it down from Netflix it feels impossible to find it anywhere with English subtitles! Such a bummer and missed opportunity
