I recently heard of Carly Rae Jepsen via the publicity about her opening spot on Justin Bieber's upcoming tour. What I missed was Justin's promotion of her song Call Me Maybe on YouTube.
A quick search for "Call Me Maybe" on YouTube will pull up tons of fan generated videos. They are all great - the song is just so catchy - but this one from Marist College is my favorite. Also doesn't hurt that one of the dancers is wearing a Lehigh tank top:)
Lehigh students made one, too.

Have a Question for a House, Senate, or Gubernatorial Candidate? Deadline Sept 20.
If so, then post your question here.
Peers can read your question and vote it up or down. The top 10 questions will be presented to each candidate in that particular race, and the candidates can answer as many of those 10 questions as they want, in any format and length of time that the candidate chooses by October 14.
The 10Questions campaign is the result of a partnership between the nonpartisan org Personal Democracy Forum, Google, and YouTube.
10Questions reminds me of the very awesome 2008 YouTube video debate:)

OK Go tells Record Label EMI to Get with The Times
Yeah! HeadCount published this blog post that I wrote yesterday, after reading this Fast Company article about OK Go's departure from EMI.

As someone who greatly enjoys embedding YouTube videos in a 3rd-party site for promotional purposes (can you tell?:), this is fascinating stuff.
Speaking of, here's a great, quick recap of OK Go's time on Capitol Hill, advocating for net neutrality -
PS - I LOVE the HeadCount blog:)

CNN & YouTube Live Debate in Copenhagen - Submit Your Question for World Leaders & Vote on other Questions
Have a pressing question for world leaders about climate change? This is your chance to ask it on television.
CNN and YouTube are conducting a live debate in Copenhagen, where leaders and activists at COP15 will come together to answer your top-ranked questions on climate change.
YouTube, CNN and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs are inviting world citizens to submit video and text questions for our world climate leaders here. Then vote on your favorite video questions until Dec 14th!
The world climate leaders who will be fielding your questions are Kofi Annan, Thomas Friedman, Yves de Boer, and Bjorn Lomberg.
The top-rated questions will be posed to leaders at a live townhall event in Copenhagen on December 15th, currently scheduled for 12-2pm CPH time. The event will be televised on CNN international and live-streamed on YouTube.
The videos will be available for translation. This is the first time that Google Moderator is being used with YouTube. For more info about languages and tech, see this YouTube blog post.
ALL submitted video questions will cycle through a giant 3-story "cube", so your voice will be heard at COP15, even if not featured in the CNN YouTube Debate.
The media (including bloggers - though not me; I didn't make it to Copenhagen) are working out of the Fresh Air Center. The submitted videos will also be shown on several large screens @ the Fresh Air Center.

ROI = Return on INVOLVEMENT

photo: Sea Garden.
I would have guessed this ...
According to new analysis from IPG Emerging Media Lab's team of digital experts, 6 of the top 10 most-trafficked websites in 2008 were community-based sites like Facebook, Myspace, and Youtube.
About 75% of online community members said they use the internet to participate in communities related to social causes, with 40% participating at least monthly.
However, I was surprised to see this very awesome news ...
87% of community members report participating in social causes that are new to them since their involvement in online communities began.
Partly based on these findings, IPG concluded that the best way for brands to engage consumers is through cause marketing. However, Raquel Krouse, social media practice lead at IPG's Emerging Media Lab, said that using social networks for cause marketing purposes "has been a very tough nut to crack for marketers." But she also said that diverse forms of cause marketing are "becoming very successful."
In any case, it's worth a try. In the United States, IPG's Lab found that:
* 92% of consumers said they have a more positive image of a product or company when it supports a cause.
* 87% of consumers said that when price and quality are equal, they are more likely to choose a brand associated with a cause.
* About 78% of consumers think it important for brands to involve themselves in worthy causes.
*Worldwide, 60% of consumers said that they don't buy from brands that they consider to be bad corporate citizens.
When measuring success in the social networks field, IPG Emerging Media Lab notes that cause marketers should use new benchmarks for success - "return on involvement", a brand's ability to generate "trusted referrals," consumers' interest in following a brand, and viral distribution.

History of Youtube
This is a GREAT lecture - an anthropological history of Youtube.
Presented at the Library of Congress, June 23rd 2008 by Michael Wesch, a professor of cultural anthropology at Kansas State University.
Professor Wesch shows how YouTube, LinkedIn, Digg, Technorati and other social media tools are not just influencing culture but creating it, not just changing traditional media but replacing it.
