Global Prayer Week 2020, IBC - Global Prayer Week Facebook.

International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) organized Global Prayer Week following their May 7, 2020 Virtual Vesak YouTube livestream. Buddhist organizations around the world contributed prayers to the IBC collective effort.

On May 16, IBC offered a 3+ hour livestreamed program "World Prayer Meet" featuring representatives from various Buddhist organizations to mark the end of the one-week prayer program.

"The world today is in great turmoil, with the impact of Covid-19 taking its toll on victims and their families, as well as frontline health providers. Economic hardship due to the pandemic has also claimed many lives and is devastating poorer and vulnerable people everywhere.

"His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in his recent messages for "The Call to Unite," as well as Vesak, has underlined the importance of recognising our deep interdependence, that demands a coordinated global response in order to tackle the predicament before humankind today.

"In order to heed the words of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a second Buddha, whose presence in this country and on the planet is a great blessing for the whole world, Tibet House Delhi felicitates Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vesak message and joins in solidarity with the Global Prayer Week efforts of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) in order to alleviate the severity and effects of this pandemic.

"Since Covid-19 is the result of negative collective karma, no doubt accumulated due to ignorance and a self-cherishing attitude, and a motivation to harm others, be it other humans beings or animals, the antidote of the collective recitation of the holy sutras of the Buddha and the words of the great Indian and Tibetan masters, as well as guided meditations, cannot be underestimated and is called for on a vast scale.

"We therefore invite you to join us, live on Tibet House Facebook or via following the recordings at a later time, for an hour a day from 11-15 May 2020. From 10.30-11.30am (Indian Standard Time), there will be a recitation of holy scriptures, followed by a guided meditation on one of the topics of shamatha, the four seals, bodhicitta, and the wisdom of emptiness. On the last day, we will have long life prayers for the living Buddha of our times, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The proceedings will make use of this text The Blaze of Non-Dual Bodhicittas.

"This week’s collective practice will lead into the two day online teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, from 8:00am – 9:30am (Indian Standard Time) on 16-17th May 2020, on Arya Nagarjuna’s Precious Garland.
