Mentor a Bay Area High School Student through the College Scholarship App Process as a Volunteer for the Level Playing Field Institute's SMASH Program

Interested in helping high-achieving, low-income, underrepresented high school students of color in the San Francisco Bay Area who are pursuing higher education studies in the sciences & math with their college scholarship applications?

The Level Playing Field Institute is looking for 25 Bay Area volunteers to mentor junior & senior high school students enrolled in the SMASH College Scholarship Application Program.

All training will be provided. Mentors will meet their students on Sat Oct 23 at the LPFI offices in San Francisco for a half-day of training that'll last from 9am - 2pm. This session will focus on how to apply for scholarships, with special emphasis placed on developing and drafting an effective scholarship essay. (The students will have learned how to search for scholarships in a prior workshop.)

Following this half day, mentors will spend 5-10 hours helping students structure, manage, and edit three college scholarships throughout the year.

If you'd like to volunteer as a mentor then call Sumaiya at the LPFI offices, at 415-946-3047 for more info. Volunteer applications are due Oct 15.
