The Trail of DREAMs is a group of four brave students who are currently walking from Miami, FL to Washington, DC to raise awareness about the impacts of immigration laws on undocumented young people that have grown up in the United States, and the impact on the families that have been torn apart by immigration detention and deportation.
Along the way they have held events and met with different communities, and bravely confronted anti-immigrant sheriffs and even the KKK. They have played a major role in reinvigorating the movement for immigration reform, which has been called one of the most important civil rights issue of our generation.
They are finally arriving in DC on May 1st for a major rally in support of students that would benefit from the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, a bi-partisan piece of legislation that would allow qualifying youth access to higher education. The rally begins at 9am at the Tenants and Workers United Offices at 3801 Mt. Vernon Ave in Alexandria, VA and concludes with a 2pm Rally for Immigrant Rights at Lafayette Park in front of the White House.
The Rally wraps up a week full of related events, which started today. Check out the listing of all of the events here.
Young people are invited to participate in Lobby Day on Capitol Hill this Thursday. To register go here.
