O.A.R.'s "Heard the World" Charity Contest

"I just heard the world is breaking down into bits again. Tell me what am I to do?" - O.A.R., "Heard the World"

I joined the O.A.R. Street Team in 2002. I'm proud to say that they've been doing some great work. They invited HeadCount to send 2 volunteers on their tour this summer, to run a voter registration drive. All fans who brought 3 cans of food to last night's show, to donate to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, received a free ticket to the show. Fans donated 1,218+ lbs of food, and $100 in donations.

According to today's O.A.R. e-newsletter, the band is running the "Heard the Word Charity Contest" again this year. Fans can nominate non-profits that deserve extra recognition this holiday season, to O.A.R. via email, and the band will select and reward the three most-deserving organizations, as well as the fans who nominated the winning organizations.

1st Place -- 4 tickets and a meet and greet with the band at a show of their choosing in 2009. Plus, the Heard The World Fund will donate $5,000 to the organization.

2nd Place -- 2 tickets to a show of the person's choosing in 2009, and $2,500 for the organization.

3rd Place -- a signed copy of the band's newest album, All Sides, and $1,500 for the organization.

O.A.R. will also donate $700 to the Children's Scholarship Fund in each organization's name, which will provide one child a year of schooling.

For submission guidelines, see the O.A.R. website. All entries are due no later than December 10, 2008.
